You got the muck, I got the rake You get the give, I get the take I save my money, you roll the dice So sit down on my knee little girl and take my advice You got to get your ducks in a row Or else you get your things and go If you wanna fret, fuss and fight You'd better pack your bags, and get out tonight Who is the gold, who is the fool Who digs the hole, who is the tool We burned the candle at both ends didn't we Now my house is burning down, so I'm telling you simply I asked John the Revelator I asked the angered hit n' run raper By your own mothers tongue, I was warned That some women they be trouble from the day they are born
2.
You've got to tell the truth, don't come at me with none of your lies You've got to tell the truth, don't come at me with none of your lies There aint a copper or a stalker who'd believe those alibis A hypocrite is what you are, it's starting now to make me mad A hypocrite is what you are, it's starting now to make me mad You take a drag out of your cigarette & tell me that I'm living bad You haven't been so clean, a little bird told me so You haven't been so clean, a little bird told me so It started with a white lie, but where it ends we still don't know You've got to tell the truth, are you listening to what I said? You've got to tell the truth, are you listening to what I said? If you keep with all the lying, gonna find your poor self dead

Wake up Buddy's in his bully pulpit again Preaching all of your damnations, from the orphaned girls to the missionary men Vengeance crashing down like lightning, as if it's gospel heaven sent Wake up Can't you see your tent is catching fire Any limit to intolerance is about set to expire Buddy's betting from his hilltop, the future hanging on a wire Wake up That's the alarm on the American dream If you stay asleep much longer, there won't be anybody left to hear you scream Buddy's lining up them bullets, like candy pellets in a Pez machine Wake up Buddy's coming around the curve You're looking straight into his headlights, which one of you is gonna swerve Now you're headed for the ditch, may we all get what we deserve

about

There was a golden age for travelling musicians from around the early '50's to the early 60's.
The hard city blues combos & (pre fab-four) rock 'n' roll outfits were permanent road dogs, criss-crossing the continent playing in any chicken-wire dive bar that would have them.

Still in the 45 rpm age, they stole studio time wherever & whenever they could. Quick sessions on the fly, in-between gigs. Cutting fun, simple tracks without much fanfare, to use as calling cards for the live show. Never overthinking & never overplaying. The bag of tricks being whatever was at hand on that particular day, in that particular studio.

The 4 performances here were inspired by that mind-set, tempered with new millenium recording aesthetics. Just one of the threads running through it all is E-L-E-C-T-R-I-C-I-T-Y. Over half a century later it's still an adrenaline shot to fret a note & feel the voltage rattle your teeth. Of course, back then it was punching holes in the amp cone, now we punch a few computer keys, but the spirit remains...

-DUCKS IN A ROW is transistor radio bait. A lazy, loping shuffle. The type of song that took all your jukebox quarters on a Saturday night.

-TELL THE TRUTH wanders onto the dance floor of your local dive lounge for a bluesy rave-up.

-WAKE UP BUDDY takes a detour through NOLA flavoured funk with some apocalyptically prophetic lyrics. It's the mood of the times.

-TAROT CARD SHUFFLE breaks new ground for me. An instrumental! A surf group landlocked on the south side of Chicago. A six-string choir in the church of Leo Fender.

about

Marq DeSouza Vancouver, British Columbia

-A very personal rock album. He also writes from a very moral perspective, which gives his record a strong POV. These songs are not filled with empty thoughts but actually try to say something. (Vancouver Province)

-Inspiration drips from every distorted and bent guitar note, down-but-not-out vocal phrasing, and sneered lyric. (Georgia Straight)
